Christmas Tree

Now I know there are many who will read this and want to break the screen but I must warn you this post contains use of the "c"  word. CHRISTMAS! It is only 4 weeks away peeps and I, for one, can't wait. This will be our first Christmas with my baby girl and the first with just me and the kids so I want it to be great for them.

This is also our first Christmas in this house. As we haven't got much space I decided not to buy a tree this year, I thought we would make one instead. We had the gas fire taken out so the chimney breast is the perfect place and the presents can go on the hearth round the bottom of the tree. It will look great!

I thought I would do several posts showing our progress as Im hoping to take time over it now the weather has turned. The boys were very excited about making their own tree too which is a brilliant start.

Lining paper is a life saver. If you dont have any,  nip to B&Q and grab a roll. Its only a few quid and keeps you in paper for ages. If your kids are anything like mine they will put half a gallopn of paint on one spot on the paper and make another beautiful brown creation. Lining paper can cope with that much paint without tearing or letting it seep through. Perfect!

So, I put a couple of strips on the chimney and drew the outline of our tree. Then with plastic mats and bowls of water to hand, I let the boys paint the tree. We had several thick patches of paint so I had to show them how to spread it out before we ran out of paint but they did a great job.

We left the tree to dry over night. Meanwhile, I started making some decorations. I bought some glittery foam sheets from Tesco which are sticky on the back.

I dug out some Christmas cookie cutters and used them to draw round.

I found a robin cutter too which my son thinks is a duck!

I suppose I can see his point. I thought it was more like a wren with that tail,  but still. The reindeer look like reindeer!

I asked the boys what colour star they wanted to put on top of their tree.. Surprisingly, they both said pink. So pink it is..

I have some white card and silver paint so I thought I would cut out some snowflakes so the boys can paint them. Then we can decorate the rest of the chimney with them.

I could try to make some bunting with them too. Maybe when we finish the tree we could make a snowman like Olaf for the back of the door....
